How can we improve Prime Timetable?

  1. Allow a preference for same day subjects instead of teacher gaps.

In NYC we have to be cautious of the UFT contract so it would be nice to be able to preference the solver to deal with certain errors before the other errors. The card conflicts and the the teacher gaps absolutely need to be dealt with before the same day subjects so we aren't in violation of the contract. The solver seems to do card conflicts and then same day subjects which is not helpful.

  2. Calendaring the Timetable

It will be awesome to add a calendar to the timetable, this is how i consider to be the best option.

When you define Days and Periods in the owl you should put a validity start date and end date.

The program could now generate a calendar for those dates which can be used to pin single events, define bank holidays where the school is closed or to see and publish the generated timetable in a calendar view.

This should not be a gigantic effort in terms of development but a massive improvement to the product.

    Thank you

  3. Can you create a setting that would allow you to request that a teacher not teach the same class back to back?

    For example:
Mr. Smith's class has science three times per cycle. If Ms. Jones teaches Mr. Smith's science class on Day 1, I don't want her to teach them on Day 2 as well. I want at least one day in between. Please help! This is the ONLY function missing from this amazing site :)

  4. When a card is selected the period time times should be shown

When a card is selected the period time times should be shown at the bottom of the screen along with the other details of that card.

  5. Maximum days per week for teachers

For part-time teachers who can only teach one or two days per week, but are flexible on which weekdays they are available.

We have some teachers who need to be able to have all their lessons in the fewest days possible so they can reduce the time they spend traveling each week.

Maybe you can pick certain days and use the marker to forbid or mark as unwanted other days? http://www.primetimetable.com/help/#unwanted&q
If the generator can’t solve the constraints you can quickly choose other days by using markers, e.g. switch to teacher individual view where you can quickly forbid certain days by clicking day name with the red marker.
We are trying to keep the number of constraints as low as possible in order to reduce the complexity of software and this looks like too specific constraints which can be simulated with what is already available.

  6. Freeze Column & Row labels

It would be great to be able to 'Freeze' the Column & Row labels to the left and top bars so that when you zoom in/out or scroll you can still see the headings

  7. Set Time Gaps between lessons

Would be great to be able to set a specific gap time (ex. 15 Min) between each lesson.

  8. Keeping Logs

We need to be able to see the logs for any given timetable. We should be able to see the details of who created what, who modified it, when, etc. to avoid any confusion - especially when multiple people are working on a certain table. Could we start from here maybe? Because logging is a somewhat standard procedure, so hopefully it shouldn't be a problem to add that to the website. If such a feature is already available, I couldn't locate it. There is only the time of the last modification under the "Open Timetable" menu.

  10. Schedule meetings for teachers

However, these won't affect gaps in schedule

  12. Add support for displaying Groups in cards

Currently in order to display the groups info in a card you need to add the class info. This results in cluttering the timetable when several classes have groups having a lesson at the same time. The intended behaviour however works fine when exporting as HTML Spreadsheet - it only displays the group and not all classes.
The same should happen when Printing the timetable direclty from the print option

  13. Freezing first column in master view

When zooming in the master view you easily get lost when moving across the pane becasue you cannot see the first column as you move. You should immitate the freezing panes feature MS Excel has.

  14. Not showing teacher periods in student schedule

In some institutions teachers start working earlier for meeting purposes, those periods should not be displayed in the student view. You recommended me to eliminate those periods before printing and not saving the changes but these could lead to an chaos if unintentionally I press the save button.

  15. Printing master view day by day

Master view can be printed but includes all days, making it imposible to read, this could be resolved making a day by day view.

  17. Restrictions on the number of times a class appears in one day for one teacher

It would be great to have an option to put constraints on how many times a class can show up for one teacher in one day so as not to have one class show up 3-4 times in one day.

  18. WordPress Plugin

A WordPress Plugin to pull the calendars from the Prime Timetable website into other WordPress website would be very helpful for distributing schedules on a portal.

  19. Print Schedules by grade with a box per classroom.

If two groups are places together, have both groups listed in a single box.

  20. Creating individualized student schedules

Students names and grades would be able to be imported into the program and then we could click checkboxes for the students groupings on the software.
